Hey There!
Hello,
My name is Chantelle and I've been working with animals my entire life. At the age of 12 I retrained an ex Sulky Race Horse to canter and gallop. I use to love training my dad's beagles basic obedience and I've had several dogs and cats all through my life. I also had a small hobby farm until recently as my husband and I want the freedom to go away for the weekend etc and that's just not possible with a farm! We had goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits and quail.
Since 2012 I've been cleaning houses for many people all over the Capital Region and if they have pets I'm one of their favorite people. I could never resist patting them, playing with them while I worked and caring for them while I was there!
Why Do I Want to Work with Dogs?
While I've always had a passion for animals dogs have a special place in my heart. They're angels on earth bringing joy and comfort to so many and they are loyal & forgiving companions. Then 11 years ago Nola came into my life. She was a rescue from the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. They found her wandering the streets of Albany. Nola stole my heart. She was my first rescue dog and taught me so much more about dogs than I had ever learned up to that point. You see Nola had some reactivity issues and I had to hire a trainer to help me with her training. It was then that I was introduced to Positive Reinforcement Training and it was magic! Nola was so much fun to train, so smart and I first developed a yearning to become a professional dog trainer myself! However, I was a single mom to two teenage daughters and we had lost my first husband not long before this so the timing just wasn't right for me to go back to school. Then....tragendy struck and I lost Nola to cancer. I was devastated. So, I put that dream on the back burner for awhile. Then, I got Wrinkles...that spark came back to life and I also discovered Concept Training while refreshing my learning so I could train him to be the best companion and a Canine Good Citizen (so we can visit nursing homes etc) Concept Training looks a lot like Positive Reinforcement Training but it dives into how your dog thinks and how you can change their way of thinking through play to achieve real life training results. Bonus: It's SO MUCH FUN!
I'm so looking forward to working with your dogs, taking them for walks, playing with them and just dedicating my life to helping dogs live their best life, always.
I'll be volunteering at the Mohawk Hudson this fall as well in the hopes I can help all the Nola's out there that I meet find their furever homes. I also plan to attend Animal Behavoir College in the Spring of 2022. Meanwhile this winter I'll be taking more Dog Training Certificate Courses (I've already completed 2) and working with Wrinkles on his skills using the Training Acedemy with Ablsolute Dogs. We are working through the Adolecent Badge at the moment as that is the stage Wrinkle is at!
